They can make anyone to handle complex issue without understanding what those regulations and paperwork mean. Startup/Small/Medium companies don’t necessarily need to consult lawyers, accounting companies and even tax service companies.

Meanwhile, you need to be passionate in updated technology, maybe Ruby on Rails, Saas,. Cloud computing, machine learning, and so on
Be proficient in any languages of these: C#, Java, Ruby, Flex. and so on. And most important thing, you should be open to any technology and starving to learn.(Ruby on Rails is what they use, I believe you can pick it up quickly if you are good)
Good at engineering practices like Agile, Scrum.(Pair programming, TDD)
You should have knowledge or experience in Enterprise application, business intelligence, and know how workflow business engine works.
Ideally you should be familiar with legal and finance (taxes) knowledge
